I was surprised when I saw that lot of people almost religiously watch or listen to the news. My attitude is that the news most of the times don't bring anything new and therefore you are waisting your time watching it regularly. But it seems like Israelis believe that the news will today be different from yesterday!
How would you explain this?

You are right the news is everywhere and all the time.
This is because Israel is surrounded by enemies. There were many wars in Israel and the borders are never quiet.
It seems like always something bad has happened or about to happen
I think it is like a Pavlov reaction. Whenever Israelis here the sound of the news coming in they stop talking and listen to the news to make sure nothing bad has happened.
