Finish students and their famous party overalls...

Hi all,

I recently saw some pictures from a student party in Finland and I was surprised to see everyone wearing colourful overalls with various stams on them instead being all dressed up for a party. They all looked like they were ready to go to Formula 1 race! Could you explain me what is behind this tradition?
